The vast benefits of organic farming

vees56hs : July 4, 2012 2:50 am : Recent

Organic farming is something which the world is following now days. In reality, the food consumed by people prior to 1970s was usually natural and organic. When we use the term organic, it basically means that the growth of a particular crop takes place on its own and naturally without any pressure from human beings.

Now a day’s most of the farmers are interested in making fast bucks instead of cultivating quality fruits and vegetables. Let us take an example – A normal vegetable such as cabbage takes about 4 weeks for cultivation but now the same cabbage is harvested within 2 weeks because of the use of chemicals and other pesticides. The final product remains similar to that of a naturally grown vegetable without much difference. The reason why farmers go for such tactics is to make their profits double which otherwise they would have never achieved.

In the bargain, what we consume are fruits and vegetables filled with chemicals and pesticides which can take a toll on human lives as the years pass by. That is the reason why we must follow the olden method of growing vegetables – the organic method.

That is what we call organic farming. Today, there are many companies following organic farming and to know its authenticity, they have to pass a certain test for each fruit and vegetable to check whether any pesticides or chemicals are used or not for its growth. Only the ones where these chemicals are not used to get passed as an organic product meant to be consumed by human beings. What we find today in the market are just unhealthy fruits and vegetables which might be considerably cheaper as compared to the cost of an organic vegetable. But taking care of our health is very important and therefore consuming the right kind of naturally grown vegetables and fruits are the best option.

Why we must opt for Organic Farming

vees56hs : June 19, 2012 10:51 am : Recent

We often tend to purchase potatoes from the local supermarket. But we must also not forget that most of the vegetables found today are full of chemicals and pesticides which are not safe for human consumption. In the past, just a few couple of years back, we could get healthy grown potatoes and other vegetables for our daily consumption.

When we say healthy grown vegetables we mean making use of reduced pesticides which are healthy for the human body. Up to the early 1990s, all the vegetables and fruits were grown in a natural form. It means that each vegetable had its own cycle of growing. Some vegetables harvest within one month while there are others that takes almost a year to grow. Potatoes grow within as little as 6 weeks but these day’s farmers use chemicals and pesticides to ensure that the growth takes place in less than 2 to 3 weeks. What happens is that these potatoes look normal to a naked eye, but it is not at all ideal for human consumption. The same theory is followed for all the other types of vegetables and fruits.

The question is why do they follow this method? Well, when farmers can harvest potatoes within 2 or 3 weeks, it means that within 6 weeks period, they will be able to harvest twice or three times as much quantity which otherwise they would not be able to produce if they had gone the natural method. And in the bargain, their profits will shoot up three folds. But who is the ultimate sufferers? Naturally, it is we who are buying from them. That is the reason, why we must promote organic farming. This farming takes the natural process of harvest without the use of chemicals. The cost of these vegetables and fruits might be higher, but it is worth the price you pay for your health.

There are plenty of varieties of potatoes to choose from when you decide to grow them in your garden. You can choose from early, mid early, medium to even late maturing varieties. If you opt for all of these, you will only get different varieties of potatoes and that too all through the season. And potatoes can be stored for a longer period of time for many months together.

If you are planning to grow your own potato in your garden, it is advised to go for an early harvest potato plantation so that you will get your matured potato ready to be used for your cooking purpose at a much faster pace. Once plucked, you can begin to seed the next batch of potatoes. When potatoes are grown at home, you can be assured about its quality as there will be no chemicals or pesticides that will be used to speed up its growth. Therefore, you will only get fresh and clean potatoes for you and your family to enjoy a lavish time eating naturally grown potatoes.

It is important to ensure proper conditions while growing potatoes such as light, water, soil etc. The reason why organic farming is gaining popularity during these years is because of the fact that this kind of farming makes use of reduced pesticides and therefore all the vegetables and fruits grown under organic methods are healthy for the human body. Organic and healthy Grown Potatoes

vees56hs : May 26, 2012 5:31 am : Recent

Healthy grow potatoes began somewhere in the 1990s. This was started by farmers from Wisconsin which is a state in the United States. Such kinds of potatoes are naturally grown without the use of any pesticides. Most of the times, the potatoes are grown on a large farm or in homes where they do not use any chemicals to drive away the pests and insects. Instead, regular care and treatment is conducted to ensure that the potatoes are grown naturally which is a healthy process.

There are different ways of cooking potatoes. Home grown potatoes require just a rinse in the water before getting it to be boiled or baked. After which it has to be peeled off, add cottage cheese or butter, a sprinkle of salt, pepper etc. This will produce a delicious and an economically priced meal. You can also mix it with fish, green vegetable dish, salad or even meat. More care and attention must be given to the potatoes during their growth as this will help yield proper nutrients and the potatoes will also taste better.

The best way to grow potatoes is in moist, well drained and loose soil. Potatoes can actually be grown in any kind of soil and those soils that are clayey and stiff must be avoided. You can even grow potatoes on a loam type or sandy soil but the soil has to be fed with compost, well decayed manure or any suitable organic fertilizer.

The potatoes are completely grown using reduced pesticide and the usual procedure is by digging the plot in the earth before the actual planting procedure. It is very important to ensure that the soil is clean with no weeds, rubble, clods or even stones. Then spread 50 mm or 2 inches organic fertilizer over the area and dig it in.
